I don't think it will. Aside from the fact that it isn't that good, I think many people will just forget it as is the case with many releases from the beginning of the year.

Given what there is to look forward to this year (not much), I wouldn't be surprised if this made it as one of my faves of this year.

Ya it is pretty tough for releases this early in the year to garner any kind of momentum for that kind of thing. I remember when obZen was released in March a few years ago. What IS there to look forward to this year?

I'm not a good person to ask this. It always depends on what kind of music you like. I always try to go with the flow.

Edit: You may be interested in checking out the new Clutch record though.

I'm mildly excited. Earth Rocker is supposed to be the return to their heavier side.

I've heard a couple of the songs off "Earth Rocker" live already, they sound really awesome. Like a mix of "Elephant Riders", "S/T", and "Pure Rock Fury"-era stuff. Which makes me a really happy boy.i I totally dug some of the bluesier stuff, but nothing compares to the first 5 albums and "Impetus" EP.

Pure Rock Fury is one of their best imo. So, I'm very happy to hear that. I also agree with you. The blues stuff was getting a bit old.

Yeah, they never pushed it very far. They just did the same thing over and over. They added some instruments over time, but no change to the actual songwriting. Live, they definitely added more of a "jam band" feel, which was cool, and they never forgot about the classics. I appreciate that about them, but it also shows that they never really grew tired of it, per se, just wanted to do something different for a bit. "Pure Rock Fury" is a beast, but I still to this day prefer the s/t and "Transnational Speedway League". I saw them on the "Elephant Riders tour way back, opening for Limp Bizkit of all bands, and they played that stuff brilliantly even with Fallon falling-over-drunk. I'll never stop loving that band, such amazing musicians.

I love them two. I saw them in concert once a couple of years ago and they were totally amazing. The streak of Pure Rock Fury, Blast Tyrant and Robot Hive has to be my favorite. They're such a consistent band though. I don't think I dislike any of their records.

I didn't dig the last one much, probably the only one I wouldn't consider myself a fan of. But they are, like you said, so consistent, that it's hard to stay mad at 'em. I can always go listen to one of their bazillion albums and forget about it. They are constantly putting material out these days too, so there's always something to keep me interested. I know that they're appreciated around here, but it still blows my mind how they're not a gigantic band. I live in Cleveland, and there is a huge stoner rock/metal fanbase here, and they still play relatively small venues. I guess as usual, the best bands never get the best sales.

I think they're quite big actually, especially here in Europe. It's strange that you're saying that. I once saw an interview with them and they asked Neil a question "is it tough to be an independent band?" and he just said he really can't regard Clutch as such an outfit because some many people come to their concerts. Sure they're not going to play the venues as big as Kings Of Leon and such.

That's my argument. It kinda baffles me that bands like Kings of Leon and QOTSA are bigger than them. I definitely don't consider them to be underground or anything, they definitely have exposure and presence, just not the amount I would expect them to. They're definitely accessible enough to be more "mainstream" or what have you.

Well. You won't change the world. I really dig QOTSA, but couldn't care less about Kings Of Leon.

I dig the S/T and TNS the most, but I really love some of the stuff from Beale St. too, just a fun band, hoping they come to the Canadian West Coast some time soon.
