For the most part I hate the sound of people singing over this type of music. Harsh vocals or nothing.

Daniel Tompkins kills it on this album.

I thought Language was great but this is another level.

Between this, The Amanuensis and Language, it's been a fantastic year for me. The mixing is perfect on
this album, and Tompkins' voice is absolutely angelic, Idle Minds and The Constant are just magnificent.
Astounding work from Skyharbor...can only hope they match this with the next record! ^^

Kinda disappointed by this tbh. Illusion and Chaos really had a nice punch, great energy. This is too floaty and light without being particularly moving. Lacks the quiet beauty of say old Alcest but also has no "umph" to create staying power. Hopefully it grows on me.

This definitely doens't sound like a Linkin Park prog album. If you're gonna compare it to anything
mainstream I'd say Dan Tompkins' vocals sound very much like Stephen Christian of Anberlin now, especially
on "Allure". Instrumentation is unreal on this, but it did have to grow on me.

Umm, the music is actually super mellow. I'm not even sure you can call most of it metal.
But the collaborative songwriting definitely shows on this album. Illusions and Chaos definitely sounded a bit like an instrumental album with vocals over it in places, but the pieces fit much better here. The instruments are not quite as interesting though. Still, this is probably a solid 4.5

I found it took a few listens to get into. The first listen I felt the same way as PortalofPerfection.

Fuck this album is too good.

Only problem I had was there being no screaming. Only because Dan is one of the very few vocalist to me who mix them perfectly together.

Definitely a grower, I really think this is an album you have to listen to from front to back at least few times to get a grip on it. But this is exactly what I wanted their sophomore to sound like. I still think Celestial is their best song tho.

i agree crowing i do like dans version of harsh vocals. a bit sad he didn't use them on this but it is still a phenomenal album in it's own right

I need to listen through it a few more times before I drop a verdict. More importantly, I think your review
was fantastic and I hope to see more :D
(EDIT: Btw, @above commenter that Anberlin comparison on the vocals is spot on)

Agreed on Celestial being their best, Drummerboy. Was hoping for something of that caliber to stick its neck out on this album. Hasn't really happened.

Kinda dissapointed with this one to be honest. I absolutely loved their first album but this is just missing something. It's "good" throughout but there just isn't anything standout at all. Also some of the outros are just too airy and long and end up sucking the life out of it :o/

There are some absolute gems on this album. Evolution's vocals slay, Halogen took a while to grow on me but it did, and the ending 3 are pretty much perfect.
