"The Mercy Beat" is one hell of a song
I'm gonna have little Lucifer runnin' off to Purgatory with his tail between his legs; I'm gonna teach him a lesson, he ain't never gonna forget
And then the way Johnson scats those high notes near the end of the song, and then each instrument returns one by one for the climax... genius songwriting right there, and a varied and fantastic vocal performance throughout the record

I can't fault it Dylan.
Matt isn't a great singer but he's one of the greatest vocalists of all time imo

Yeah, I suppose he doesn't really have a traditionally smooth, clean, and pitch-perfect voice that people would associate with great vocals, but he's extremely talented (at least if this and Mind Bomb are anything to judge by) and his vocals add a ton of personality to these songs

Rain Man it is, then
Never looked at the harmonica in "Heartland" that way before, will need to listen with that in mind later today - been too long since I jammed this album anyway

Dylan checking your ratings and you've got quite a high proportion of 5s there.
You can guess where I'm heading.

Jesus Christ XD
Anyway I just listened to this again. Let's see... impeccable songwriting, nearly every facet of the music suits the lyrics to a tee, no two songs are alike, each one teleports you to its own little world and makes you feel like you're actually witnessing the events described in the lyrics... album fits solidly within the "you must hear this before you die" category... yep, this is a 5. Unreal to think that this is the brainchild of one man.
