On 1985 now, weird one, starts like some mystical 80s prog or something, then goes into Karnivool and now its djenting. Pretty cool sound so far.

Both singles on here were better than everything off The Mountain, so I'm excited to jam.

lol, no they weren't

The Mountain was too cheesy for my tastes, the more synth driven/darker sound on here is far more up my alley.

I consider this to be a lot cheesier than The Mountain by a fucking long shot.

Dude why you so angry? Jam some good cheese like old school Dream Theater and chill :]

it's not the cheese that bothers me on here. I'm usually drawn to stuff like that but saying that The Mountain is cheesier than this i don't really get. Just because the lyrical themes are darker doesn't make it less corny.
plus, I like The Astonishing WAY more that this garbage

Yeah, some people equate good catchy melodies with cheese. This isn't that catchy so the cheese is more just soundwise.

The Mountain is no masterpiece but it's better than this, which is cheesier and less depthful but probably more diverse.

I'm not so much angry as I am sorely disappointed. I really want to like this but by god the stuff that's awful on here is really awful.

The fuck? The Mountain was cheesy? I don't get that at all. I hate cheese- it ruins a lot of things. But, The Mountain???? Cheesy???? Get outta heeeya.

I knew it wouldn't be anywhere near The Mountain, but I was still let down on first listen.
I'll have to give it a few more...

Jennings vocals are some of the worst I have ever heard in the genre - since Aquarius and up to and through this. Just god awful. I am so glad my FLAC rip came with a bonus cd - an all instrumental side.

The Mountain was generally very enjoyable (albeit somewhat meandering), so I'm excited to hear this.

I don't agree with the review, but if anything this album is similar to Dream Theater's 'Images & Words' with a little djent in the mix.
It's nothing new for the genre but it's done very well and no lower than a 4 in my opinion.

holy shit toondude can you get out of this thread? if you don't like it that's fine but wishing other people stop liking this and that the average drops is literally absurd
good review though, I feel like this doesn't stand as that much worse than the Mountain overall, and I dig the experimentation

He's MAD! AAaaaah! To be fair I don't see how he complain about this albums production when he has Fallujah albums rated so highly and their shit is irritating to listen to because of it.

no
"To be fair I don't see how he complain about this albums production when he has Fallujah albums rated so highly and their shit is irritating to listen to because of it."
Fallujah is a completely different band than Haken so I'm not sure how that comparison applies.
