AF just works better because the best from Freak Out! is a lot more refined and plus it doesn't really drag on like Freak Out! did at some points. Still think they really reached their peak with Uncle Meat, for King Kong alone.

We're Only in It for the Money is my favorite Zappa related record so I can't agree there either lol

great review Fripp, don't have any criticisms ATM but will read again tonight. pretty much everything I'd want from an anniversary review: just enough biographical detail, an explanation of its lasting appeal, and descriptions that could bring in new listeners, etc

Money really grew on me last summer, so I definitely like it a lot more than I did when I first got into Zappa three years ago. I appreciate that and Uncle Meat for having the right mix of humor and technical prowess, but the latter has the edge thanks to the focus being far more in the direction of showing off the band rather than aiming towards criticizing various subjects with the music sometimes taking the backseat.

ah, cool to hear JSpot. I was worried about droning on and I did have a bit more details, but cut them out because they didn't exactly work with what I wanted to convey. Thanks again, man.

yeah I agree with Fripp on Uncle Meat. Arguably the first avant-prog album and King Kong is legit jazz fusion.

Yeah I guess it depends on what you're looking for. With that said, I like this trend of 50th anniversary reviews, so I might do one for Freak Out! heh

I guess maybe a couple lyrical bits on the theme of alienation would strengthen the review since you mention the theme a few times
