I'm a bit disappointed with the album. It's solid but it doesn't push any boundaries like Deathgrip did, and I was worried the first single Tower Of Pain would end up being the most exciting song on the album, and that proved to be true. The Price of Agony grew on me a lot though, I love the chorus, reminds me of the chorus on My Own Grave by AILD, except better. And Debts Of The Soul is like the second best song here and it's barely 2 minutes long. I love how they incorporated that post-rock feel, I wish they did a bit more of that. Closer Oblivion is also nowhere near as good as Deathgrip, that chorus sounds like it should be in a filler song.

3-3.5
but I've only listened to it once all the way through, minus the singles which I've heard ad nauseam.

That's a bit of a shame. I enjoyed their last two records a lot.

Relistening to this one before I spin Dark Skies and it's a lot more average than I thought. Slave To Nothing still knocks it out of the park but this just falls flat for me now.

I never got into Slave To Nothing, mostly because of the cleans on that record. As for Deathgrip, there's some hit-and-miss stuff in the first half, but the back half fucking slays. Dark Skies has it's moments but it's even less consistent than this.

The last two tracks on this rule but the rest borders on stale for me. I'm on the final two tracks on Dark Skies and I think it's on par with Slave so far. It's a real tight collection of tunes with some surprising moments thrown in.

Creation/Destruction is still my favorite

Yeah, the last 2 tracks on this are next level shit. But I also love More Than Nameless, We Are All Lost and Unclaimed Unloved. I even have a soft spot for Pissed Off :P
What are the surprising parts on the new one? It feels like running in place to me. It's good but I hoped this would be their chance to really break out. Next album maybe.

Man, I don't know what it is, but I feel like Dark Skies is their best for some reason, it just clicked with me more than their other records

They're still so hit-and-miss with the choruses, I really thought they would iron that out this time around.

Yeah, choruses are a bit of a drawback, but the cleans I feel are much stronger, probably because it's more of Ryan rather than Tuck

From what I've listened to from this band (which isn't much) it sounds really generic.

Art, "Anthem of the Defeated" and "Debts of the Soul" were what surprised me the most and I think they're some of the record's best songs. "When Everything Means...." and "Youth Division" have some of the best cleans of their career. I'm feeling a solid 3.5 to a light 4 on the first two spins.

I gave it a 4.5... I like it a lot for some reason, dunno why

Could end up being my personal favourite of theirs. The songwriting is really tight.
