Stop caring so much about who produced what songs imo

tracking producers has led to so much good stuff, and not many other people do it when it comes to pop, r&b, and hip hop. had I never looked up who produced, I dunno, "devil in a new dress" (bink!) I wouldn't have found like five other classics
maaaaaaybe once in a while it colors my perception in unseemly ways, and I understand something isn't good or bad because of who produced it, but it's definitely worth it

I just think it's dumb when people care more about the who, what, where and when of the production than the actual music. It shouldn't be completely ignored though, for certain.

I'll admit I can hardly imagine not being curious what goes on "behind" pop music. I'm not a huge fan of deprecating the role of actual pop musicians/performers in bringing across great music, because that's sort of an auteurist/possibly masculine(ist?) perspective on who holds the key, but writing and production, which is much more often than not left up to someone who is not the actual artist, are such big parts of why something sounds good to my ears that I need to follow those threads, without necessarily (hopefully?) letting the cart come before the horse.
From that perspective, I do think it's really interesting that EMOTION and Dedicated only share one production/writing team between them

Gotta agree about "everything he needs". That chorus is weak. Though I don't hate it like I did when I first heard it.

4sure 4sure. I think I sup into the latter sometimes but I have pop fiend friends who keep me in check

this doesn't touch emotion. still solid though

The production is part of the music tho?
Idk that's confusing to me lol

The only songs holding this back for me are The Sound and Feels Right. Almost entirely skippable they are. The rest is bop after bop.

The Sound has such a top tier everything except chorus with a high-mid tier chorus.
The Feels Right chorus is super fun but definitely not the best Carly chorus.

Everything He Needs is for sure the lowest point of the album imo

The Sound and Right Words, Wrong Time are the weakest links for me.

There’s a weird chorus that doesn’t land right or an awkward intro here and there but almost this whole record is bloody great. Except Right Words. That one should have been aborted

Right Words is "weaker" but still great
