Yeah I'm looking forward to this new one, it seems like the band had a ton of fun with it

Yeah but one iffy album in a back catalogue with 147 releases does not a pattern make, check it

Dragons was half great; Younger, Going Invisible 2, and Waylon Jennings! are great, but the quality:forgettable ratio is a lot more even than John’s almost ever let it get. It‘s one of his worst since the first couple cassette releases only by virtue of the insane quality control even with how prolific he is. So yeah, stoked as Hell for Knives

Really impressed with the new one so far, songwriting is top notch as always and the production is possibly their best ever.

Kind of torn on it as of right now, some cool use of the horns and little turns in Darnielle's writing relative to what I'm used to from 'em, but other bits are going in one, out the other.
Most of it grows though, so we'll see!

This album is underappreciated, the newest release is also slightly underappreciated, but not nearly as much as this gem, I think Goths got a lot of people back on The Mountain Goats train, but In Leagues had most hop off.

Honestly, the amount of votes on the albums is a great indicator of what I just said.

For real, this is a huge grower for something so superficially straightforward. Haven't been able to get into Getting Into Knives much, unfortunately, but still hoping.
The post Sunset Tree/pre Goths records are all really underrated tbh ('Cept Beat the Champ, Beat the Champ's whatever)
