@nukethewhale on the softer side i feel similar songwriting/bands would be something like saintseneca and the weakerthans/john k. samson. but honestly i feel a lot of their writing (from everything so far/cardinal era) is quite unique. then there's more folkier ones like field medic and lomelda/hovvdy
on the more emo/heavier side perhaps artists like mat kerekes/hop along/foxing/great grandpa are the closest that I can think of personally.
