To this day I’m still miffed that this album wasn’t called it’s original title ‘Tonight Matthew I’m going to be Underworld’
Love it.

Tintin rules, and so does Asterix.

Super Underworld. Sounds like there's a story behind it, like with Second Toughest In The Infants and Barbara Barbara We Face A Shining Future.
And they indeed rule.

Might do one for A Hundred Days off but I literally have 3 reviews mentally pending before that. Damn never slacked so hard before.

Ooooooh I would be mega happy when that one gets reviewed too! It is difficult to decide which angle to use for these Important Records.

Great review. I have this album since ages, but never gave it a fair chance (not exactly my genre - Wipeout 2097 made me buy it).
And now I am listening to it again with an open mind. Thx.

Super nice to hear! It's a lovely record, Cups especially deserves some close attention. Thanks for commenting!

Got a few listens on this so far, here's my positives. When this album decides to drift into more airy territory, man this album is good. Cups, Jumbo, Wyrm, Winjer and Something like a Mama all reach to me so easily. They do a really good job capturing a definitive ambience and hook and build a track around them. Also Push Upstairs really kicks butt and does great in sticking in your mind.
Also I guess I'm an alien of sorts because I really don't enjoy King of Snake or Moaner at all. But I just hate the mood either track builds. Melodies aren't the strength of this group for sure but these rank at an all time low to me. Neither track really succeeds at amplifying or building up the mood suggested by their hook and they could have used a mood change or two. Moaner in particular wouldn't even sound like an Underworld track if you removed Hyde's vocal performance from it. To me, it just sounds like cookie-cutter techno.
I'll listen to the full album maybe 1 or 2 more times before I rate it.

Ah yes, those softer moments are lonely. And it probably won't come as a surprise that I don't feel the same way as you about the louder moments here, haha!
I always feel that their tracks are so clearly Underworld, easily recognisable. To me they have a very unique sound to them, regardless of energy level.

I did warn that my opinion was not gonna be popular at all! Maybe I don't listen to the genre enough.
But yeah, album's still solid in overall and even though I spent the whole week listening to nothing but this album, I will definitely listen again for sure.
