man that one ghost bath album, starmourner? that is one fuckin weird record and i think that's the one pika is hating on? that album is the sickest sonic the hedgehog-core metal album. it's a treat for the senses.

So I listened to this and this is not blackgaze at all, there is no gaze in this. This is like Final Fantasy power metal / melodic black metal mash-up. I wish the harsh vocals weren't just that Ghost Bath style of wordless screaming. Some keyboard parts are excessively cheesy but that has to be intentional given how cheesy they are. Cleans need to go, why does this band hate lyrics?



The Unreqvited / Sylvaine split is still the best Unreqvited release.

When I first spun this I didn't know what to expect. I kinda thought it would be closer to Deafheaven or MOL but man, this album just evolves over it's run time. That ending is truly beautiful.

I didn't really like the 2020 releases that much so I was starting to think I didn't enjoy his albums as much as I originally thought...but this was a great reminder of just how solid his releases are. This was a fantastic listen all the way through its run-time, probably one of the most consistently strong albums for me this year.



That said, I agree that there's still something missing from this that really puts it over-the-top as an aoty contender. I don't know if it's a lack of vocals or something else that I can't put my finger on...but I don't think it's a too far away from being something truly amazing. There's some really gorgeous compositions in here.

I am loving this as cheesy as it is. One of the most epic sounding blackgaze albums I have come across. Could see myself 4.5'ing this in the future.
