As someone who has casually tuned in and out of Black Veil music over the years due to sheer curiosity and fascination, this is a solid record from these guys, it's the best album they've had since Wretched and Divine and arguably their best overall largely due in part to Andy's expanded vocal capabilities. I like the darker but still hopeful atmosphere brought to life here. The riff writing is catchy and they mix it up a little here, less repetitive and boring whoa-whoa-whoa vocals like the ones that plagued Vale, not none, just less but they fit a lot better into the songs this time around. The singer sounds a lot easier on the ears and more expressive than he used to. He has more a Breaking Benjamin/Skillet type of vocal influence on the songs now with a dash of Matt Heafy from Trivium. I think he sounds the best on the song Scarlet Cross. I like the higher notes he hits, I still think he can expand his range even more as a vocalist but he's on the right track. Most of the songs are still pretty formulaic, but it's the best they've ever done with the formula.

I think if they just cut down on the formula a little and take more creative liberties with the music, they'll really be able to create something that people can be truly marveled at. Everyone in the band has the spirit and passion needed to make great music and if this album proves anything, it's that they've always had that in them. Throughout their run, they've always had a few really stellar tracks that people can happily rock out to, but the albums themselves were not quite on the same quality. The Phantom Tomorrow taps into their creativity a lot more than they have in a few years, but they can still achieve higher with more ambitious music. I hope the best for the band, I really do want to see them become a bigger and more prominent band in the scene again, they could easily hit their second stride of popularity and become as big as Bring Me The Horizon if they keep taking more risks with the songs and their sound.
