i mean i think Caustic is the best of what i've heard from them, but the reason i asked is that their sound is very much the opposite of what you've described about Big|Brave. it's murky as fuck and basically all heavy all the time, and i know that's a major plus for a lot of listeners, but for me it ends up feeling too monotonous--Immersion in particular lost my attention pretty quickly. and that's part of what i like about nature morte--it's heavy, yes, but the crisp production and digressions into moody atmosphere help me explore the details behind the heaviness and appreciate it even more. so i'm curious if we want to get different things out of our sludge/doom/drone metal, and i think Primitive Man would be a good litmus test

also you say Nadja's a touchstone but you only have 3 of their albums rated and none of them are The Bungled & the Botched. fix that

Hmmm okay I gave Caustic a spin and basically agree with your take - that record's so crushingly heavy at all times that ye olde murk barely has a chance to seep. I dug the palette a lot more than this (not so much the vox), but if this doesn't have the tones for decent atmosphere, than Primitive Man don't let their songwriting cater to it grrr. Both 3s!

"this is much closer to the ERR/CW moodyshit"

All same label, so you might be up to smth Sherlock.

Can't count the times I tried to get into this band cause in theory I should love them but nope.

Maybe this is the one. Excellent review Jesp my dear.

It's not a 1.

And honestly didn't get past the first 2 songs, so it hardly counts as checked.

And I don't rate unchecked stuff.

And I will never EVER 1 an album that Jesperbro likes.

Nah totally different vibes. Fvnerals is almost ambient compared to these guys.

BB are great, it's just I am not fan of the vocals and all albums, all songs I heard sound almost the same. Maybe a shallow take but that's all I hear.

first impressions I'm liking this - nice heavier foil for the more restrained and subdued album they collaborated with The Body on, which was my introduction to this band
