My first 2 listens I was meh to it, but it has grown . But you can dislike it too. Like I disliked well loved album from this year and they still do nothing to me

To me this feels...sturdy? It's not anything I haven't heard before, but it's just good country music. It'd be a 3.5 if not for the last song, though, which is awesome.

That's very much how I felt about the last couple albums. I think it's pretty unlikely Isbell will ever write anything quite as emotionally powerful as Southeastern, but this one still has most of the same marks of craft, just not as potent.

This does indeed feel a little bit stiff sometimes, but I think it open up with further listens. I have to say that without the last 3 songs this wouldnt be a 4 to me.

yeah, the album signs off on a high - I'd say if you chopped those songs off this tracklist this would still be about as strong as the last two 400 Unit albums anyway (I actually thought 'Reunions' was really really consistent and a little underrated maybe).
Those final three just shout 'this is a better album than what you've gotten used to with us recently huh' quite loudly imo

Was concerned about how this year in music was shaping up so far, but this album has been a saving grace

King of Oklahoma, Middle of the Morning, White Beretta, and especially Volunteer have risen as my faves on this. only one I'm not super into is Save The World, which I read had quite a few revisions trying to attain that special lil something and I'm still not really sure it gets there
love basically all the rest of this though and prob gonna raise to a 4.5 as long as it has the staying power

I ain't used to this, seein' everybody's hand
I was raised to be a strong and silent Southern man
I ain't used to this, a thousand days alone
In my bed or in my head or in my phone…

My favorite is Miles every time. Every song is good for the most part, but none of them come close to that track's pure excellence.

honestly the more I listen the more this reminds me of Something More Than Free, which took its time to really click with me. I think with time I will really really love this. It has a subtlety I’ve missed in his last couple efforts.

Don't get the Save the World dislike - best chorus on the record. King of Oklahoma is great, too

It was so many years ago, oh, and I just didn't know
But that ain't no excuse

Need to force myself to return to this in its entirety, it's way too easy to just keep listening to Miles over and over again.
