Probably because this is really not really dm in the first place lol. The more I jam it the more I realize this is mostly mathcore with some dm influences.

I've always thought of death metal and metalcore as genres that are pretty limitless where some similar sounds can occur. There's not a whole lot of rigid emphasis on the harmony or even particularly musical transitions. You can really make any part work. Maybe it's the lack of growls that makes this feel less deathy? Idk, as a person that's heard pretty much every mathcore album worth a damn, this doesn't really give me that feeling more than it gives me death metal. Like someone said, it's more like Today is the Day goes DM (which is awesome). I really think the playing sounds pretty consistently dm, just very concerned with being atypical. I've heard parts/tones like most of these on plenty of dm songs, just not all consolidated into one record like this.

"The chase has always been more satisfying than the catch."
Generally lukewarm on this review, but this is an excellent summary of Dissodeath's thrill for me, Dissodeath that I can easily parse sucks

I do feel the review could attempt to directly describe the music more, but overall a great read, yeah.

I agree with Hawks about the more mathcore sound.
I wouldn't call this dissodeath in any sense of the term.

These guys skronk core ahrder than they dissodeath at times for sure. Their sound is quite often a pretty unique blend
This feels a bit hmm inside-the-box, but it’s a box they had a sizeable hand in creating. It’s not as out there as the previous album’s brutal prog leanings and goes for the kill more vs any sludge infusions
Still, What Passes For Survival remains their greatest achievement but they’re one of the more interesting extreme metal bands out there at the moment imo
I need more time with this tho

not sure I've been QUITE ready for this brand of aural pummelling just yet, so I'll conservatively assign a top 10 grade with room for growth once the right mood strikes

Adjusting songs and overall album length serves their music style well. And yes, it's mathcore primarly. I always perceived Pyrrhon as such.
