haha that was awesome. Al's definitely the one on show but his band is incredible too.

Solid fusion album, although I wouldn't say it's Al's best work.
Al di Meola is a technical wizard, but his playing isn't just wanking. Elegant Gypsy has great melodies, excellent bass, great keys, and incredible percussion with Latin rhythms that are a nice touch to the record.
Al's definitely one of the best pickers around. Just listen to his rapid-fire delivery on Race With Devil On Spanish Highway or his runs on Flight Over Rio. Just stellar...
The best composition on the album is Mediterranean Sundance which is a duet with the greatest flamenco guitarist of all time, Paco de Lucia (RIP). The guitar from both is stunning, with Al holding his own against the maestro. The guitar playing is technically impressive and the melodies are beautiful.

This is more delicious than a plate of paella

okay so this is good, pretty darn good even...
but the guitar tone, occasional veering into wank territory just pops out "extremely generic and shitty post-2010s prog,math,djent,post-rock wank shite" and i shudder sometimes...
