Sad or hillarious?
And I prefer Blackwater Park and Damnation very much to this. This is so much less progy.

Sad. This is Blackwater Park. I'm assuming you meant "this" as Ghost Reveries, in which case I'd have to disagree.

Oh haha yeah, they were talking about GR so I assumed we were in a GR thread. My bad.

Hm, order?
SL, BP, GR, Damnation, MAYH/Morningrise/Orchid/Deliverance. Gotta listen to those four more. but the top four are pretty much locked unless the latter four move up.

Mine would be more like GR/BP/Orchid/Damnation, Deliverance/MAYH/Morningrise/SL. Yep, I'm terribly undecided.

I hate how GR drags so much, and is so much less "Opeth" than before.

The only song that drags is Atonement, and maybe the end of Harlequin Forest, but the end of that song fits so perfectly that I've stopped caring.

I don't understand that. GR sounds as Opeth as anything else they've ever done.

Have you ever thought of being a novelist or doing something with journalism? The emotional expression you put into your reviews is utterly brilliant. To tell you the truth, you and a few others on Sputnikmusic are the reasons why I havent reviewed once on here. I could never write as articulately as you guys and I feel my reviews would just go unnoticed. Im thinking of writing Burst's 'Origo' as my first review. They are one of the only Swedish bands that can write beautiful and complicated songs like Opeth, but shorten them down significantly. Cheers to a solid review and album. Not my favorite though. Deliverence hands down takes number one!

Shadowsfallen: To you comment on page 3 about you not seeing them live, I saw them when they came to London, Ontario, Canada and they were unreal. They played a mix of everything (they only played The Drapery Falls off this album). But they ended their set with my favourite song Deliverence. I can die a happy man right now!

Honestly, this review is probably the best I've ever read. Everything that is written is dripping with passion and an extreme regard for musical fascination. I'll have to buy this. This Message Edited On 12.02.06

I'm envious. I have some friends who saw them on Gigantour and they said their sound was huge. Good enough to convert them into Opeth fans. I wouldn't really care what the setlist was since I like nearly all of their songs, although I would love to see Wreath or The Baying of the Hounds. Someday my friend, someday I'll see them.
I really appreciate the compliments on my writing too, to all of you. I didn't actually write this until months after I first decided to, mostly because I had quite a bit to say about the album and I wanted to sort it all out. Opeth is somewhat of an awakening for me, and since music is the biggest thing in my life, naturally I'm going to want to delve deep when I describe it. Many people including friends and teachers have tried to convinve me to major in journalism, but I don't think I could do it. My calling is as a musician. Perhaps I could squeeze in a minor or double major though. :p
Thanks again, I love strong Opeth support! This Message Edited On 12.02.06

great review.
I really love the first 5 songs on this album, his voice is so heavy it's insane. I just can't seem to get into the second half of the album..This Message Edited On 01.04.07

Ok. So i've listened to this album non-stop all day, and i may have just found my new favourite band.
This album is beautiful, it portrays everything in music i could ask for.
It's haunting, dark and heavy but also shows glimmers of hope in the astounding acoustic sections.
The Leper Affinity has to be one of my new favourite songs of all time. The solo is so melodic and breathtaking i kept rewinding it back just to listen to it again and again...
I'm listening to it right now and Michael's growl has got to be the best death metal vocals I've ever heard. It's so powerful it rips a hole right through you.
I'm writing to much now, so lets just say,
Opeth, we are not worthy. :p

It's definitely a great album, but I don't really understand the hype over this.
After I finish listening to the Maiden show I'll give it another listen.
