Cmon dude... Enchantment, Mortals Watch the Day, Gothic, Never for the Damned and even Fearless Sky shit all over Darker Thoughts.

The fact the band have been knocking around for thirty years and Darker Thoughts along with this album itself are still contenders is what it’s all about.

Speaking of late PL I'd take As Horizons End over Darker Thoughts, especially for that bridge/solo and the way the lead guitar enters the song in the beginning which is just monumental.

"Cmon dude... Enchantment, Mortals Watch the Day, Gothic, Never for the Damned and even Fearless Sky shit all over Darker Thoughts."
Wouldn't say "shit on" but yeah Enchantment, Mortals Watch the Day and Gothic are better for me too. What they lack in maturity they more than make up with either ambition or plain rocking hard.

On the other side, if I had to pick their most underrated opener I'd probably say I Am Nothing, one of Mackintosh's catchiest themes ever

Used to love I am Nothing back in the day. Still dig it even if not as much as it used to be.

I never fully dig a Paradise Lost album. Should probably start soon.
Best way to dig the discog? chronologically or?

If you end up enjoying your stay I'd suggest to go chrono, quality is bound to fluctuate (the debut being one of the most divisive albums) but you really can't say they don't change it up often. The discography makes for a surprisingly seamless trip to many shades of gothness

I don't think they ever did 2 similar albums in a row. But yeah its one hell of a ride their discog.

"the debut being one of the most divisive albums"

It's a fun listen and the atmosphere is awesome, kinda like Autopsy going full doom. Not sure if any of the tracks standout though.

Start with this, as this encapsulates their whole career, TPW is not nearly as diverse as this

And Dreamflight, this doesn't shit over the other openers, it's just better than all of them

on second thought, Obsidian as the bookend would be fantastic. just start with Gothic and make your way up. this band has a lot of different styles, enjoy the ride
