I am a Chiodos fan and i have to say that i liked AWTEW but they went far beyond what they did in their second album on BPB. They show creativity that is very lacking in their genre incorporating interesting hooks on songs such as "Life is a Perception.." and "Teeth the Size.." with the pianos and strings. I thought this album kicked ass and was a huge step forward for the band. The only thing i could criticize would be the vocals, but they don't really bother me since i thought the lyrics on most of the songs were interesting.

i guess most mainstream music could be likened to living under a rock

I agree with you about this album, however im a bit embarrased to admit i quite like this album. Yes its contrived and pretentious, but take it for what it should be and its fun and i nice break from my usual metal/grind/hardcore.
The only down side, and its a big one, is the vocals, Owens has an excellent range, but he is so high pitched its like listening to a cartoon character, it make me cringe at times (same reason i cant get into circa survive). The atmosphere surrrounding the music is very grand and marcabe, which do not suit his vocals or the band. Either change the style or change the vocalist. It feels to me that they are faking it all. I don't see all the hate against the vocalist. Tracks like 'The Undertaker's...', 'Life Is A Perception..' and 'Lexington' show that his voice is fine if used correctly. It's just when they try to make his voice do way too much (which they do on the majority of the tracks) that it fails. They try so hard to come up with something different that they end up with something differently bad.

I really enjoy Chiodos. They have a great sound and I really do enjoy the lead singer.
I assume that most people who are a fan of metal bands will not like this band.
I don't know where people can get off to calling them cliche, because in one way or another, every band is cliche, no matter how much you think your favorite band isn't.
Craig Owens, like many other vocalists, have the ability to sing and scream, and I respect that ability.
Whoever the lyricist is (if you know I would love if you'd tell me) has great poetic skills.
If the lyricist does happen to be Craig Owens, which I'm sure it is, then kicking him out of the band to get a new lyricist would be definantly harmful towards the band, unless the new vocalist can match up to his poetic skills.
Overall, I think they are a very good band.

This album is ruined by the monologue at the end of the last track. Maybe the most pretentious, pseudo-intellectual thing ive ever heard in my life.

I don't like this at all, really really generic and boring.
