Micheal Keene really needs to experiment with his recording methods. His stuff always sounds exactly the same. It's cool to have a style, but its sounds like after Born of Osiris left the studio, Veil of Maya entered and just plugged in.

Good Cynic song, bad band.

I happen to really like the sound he puts out, but yeah something new wouldn't hurt. Yes these guys sound identical to BOO at times. I'm just already setting my expectations low for the next Faceless album because Derek was my favorite vocalist.

I'm liking this more everytime I play it but I still can't help but feel I'm listening to a poor mans The Faceless, who are on the same label.
Imma up this to a 3 for now and it very well could grow on me more.

I said the exact same thing about Born of Osiris. I agree, they have a similar style. This Message Edited On 04.10.08

Maybe it's the production? There's some similarities, but they're very different.

You'll find with Michael Keene producing, things will turn into not what was intended from him trying to fit music into the cookie-template for a good recording, ending up with a product that wasn't as intended by the artist. I know this from my (uncredited) recording on the BOO CD.
You'll notice from The Faceless to BOO to VoM that it's the same Vetta II head, same drumkit from hell samples (cymbals are live recording), and same extremely compressed vocals.
I agree with a lot of you about the flaws of this CD, I just don't see it as being as much the band as the production, because knowing these guys and seeing them perform, I was disappointed in the way this CD turned out.

Them performing has nothing to do with how this album sounds though. I pointed out it sounds geared for a live setting but that doesn't affect the execution on here.

regarding blacksanta's comment, i personally love the guitar sound and shit Keene produces. i havent heard what this shit sounded like pre-production, but i think Keene's production on this is a plus.
anyways, the album has gotten better for me, mainly due to its not safe to swim today. catchy as fuck.

The live shows are what will keep me into deathcore for awhile, yes. They have great energy/move around a lot and get the crowd into it, since they're not exactly playing hard/technical stuff.
*awaits clever/sarcastic comment
