Sloop John B. has some of the best harmonies.

Yeah I fucks with Sloop John B
Didn't deserve to be a bigger hit than Wouldn't It Be Nice but still

The Smile Sessions’ “Surf’s Up” version completely transformed my view of The Beach Boys. Such a vital band, wish they were less misunderstood by the general public

too off kilter and silly for my liking but I suppose there are worse ways to spend half an hour these days

It's amazing how much this sounds like its art lol. Dudes be stoned
|
| |
Idk, most songs are filled with cartoony vocal layers and sounds. I used to think Fall Breaks was the only track that fit the artwork but now I think it's a great match all round.
Like put on Little Pad and stare at that elephant in the eye

In any case we both enjoy this album a lot haha

I honestly don’t like the Smiles Sessions that much, like yeah it’s brighter and happier and more complex but the dark gloomy simplicity is a strength here
Like it’s psych lo-fi music before psych lo-fi music

Wouldn’t It Be Nice will always be the best BB song. It simply can’t be topped. It’s probably in my top 10 songs of all time
|
| |
the ending of wouldn't it be nice sucks for me lol. i dunno why but i dont like it at all. sucks bc the rest of the song is 10/5

Wouldn’t it be nice is probably my favorite opener of all time I guess. Sort of think Wilson “jumped the shark” as a songwriter when he started going cuckoo, which is lame to say, but I can’t help but evaluate the songs at least: heroes, vibrations, and surf’s all do nothing for me, all due to the basic issue of convolution: more is less in all three cases
|
| |
would never in a million years think to describe good vibrations as "convoluted", it's got a lot going on but the progression between each musical 'thing' is still very direct
