When I think of Korn the last thing I would compare them to are the Deftones...

I never understood that comparison either. People tend to lump a bunch of those old bands in together when really they were all pretty different in terms of style.

Brutal Cosby is wise beyond his Cosby years

Though you gotta admit, Deftones weren't THAT dissimilar from the rest of their scene pre-White Pony

I suppose it's something about bands being lumped together as representatives for a cultural movement. So they are easier to market.

True. They were pretty similar to each other their first album.

I like what you said about a cultural movement. That's something that I wish more small concerts would do. I went to see Periphery their last concert cycle and they had Thank You Scientist open for them. Although the two bands are completely different I feel like they were spot on in terms of their similar audience. People who appreciate certain aspects of one band might appreciate certain aspects of another even if they are completely different genres.

True, but I think it's a lot harder today. Music is way more fractured now.

Back then I really liked this album so I had to check out some Deftones too. And sure enough Around The Fur pushed some similar buttons about a new attitude towards sex and drugs. It's not that simple anymore.

Probably talking out of my ass here.
