listen to metal. These guys are more processed and studio backed than the backstreet boys, they're
the boy band of tech death"
Oh God, your right! I'm deleting my music library as we speak /s
@Wizard
Other than a select few bands, I don't listen to black metal. Not because they bands are
untalented(God knows they are), but because of the numerous stereotypes that hold true in the genre.
I have no problem with people who like Black Metal, but it is really quite absurd to believe that BM
production in general is better than this album's.

Of course it's not gonna be better. It's not meant to be.

Production value should be based on what the main theme is to the music, not to be confused with a general understanding on what that particular music is all about. Black metal has perfect production for the most part because it's all about the grim. Look at movies for example, would you want to see a horror movie with a shiny, glossy feel to it? What the fuck would be the point?
And Spirit is right about these guys just having fun.

Black Metal bands achieve that horror to polished action flick contrast that you alluded to, but
like everything style doesn't equal substance. Using your horror movie example: Yea it can be
grim/whatever in spades, but unless it is shot using proper camera angles and everything else that
falls under technique, uneven production is the inevitable result. Your example relates more to the
mockumentary approach of cinematography. Ocasionally the hand cam films work(Blair Witch Project,
Cloverfield), but it is widely accepted that most mockumentaries are a one trick pony. Mockumentary
cinematography pays off when done correctly, but hardly compares to some of the masterpieces done
in a more conventional manner(schindler's list, memoirs of a Geisha). The same holds true to Black
Metal. You can't possibly believe that DIY production in of many Black Metal classics is "perfect".
Thank god we don't hire local Mexican alley surgeons to do kidney transplants.

That's a fair statement, about the mockumentary and such, but when it comes to music, this style supersedes not only black metal, but a few other genres as well that style does indeed overtake substance. Minimalism is a great example of this; less is more if you will. There are many, many bm bands that utilize this style and somehow manage to pull it off with a fresh perspective, you just have to look harder.

Comprehend it. Why not go and research a good band in this genre?
This is not backing yourself up with reason. This is you being a pretentious dick.

Comparing this to other recent releases, I can see how some of you find the production a bit sterile. It feels like some of the energy has been zapped out of the music. Still a 4.5, but just.
I never understood why Sputnik decided to go with such big increments on the rating scale. 0.25 divisions seems like a good idea to me.

Right, but you can't OPEN with snobbery, then fall back to reason when someone calls you on being a dick. You need to use reason first. Dunno. Just kinda disappointed.

Wow. who called in the morality police?
I still think album has decent production(as I stated before). Definitely not agreeing with all that robot mixed BS.

Pretentious and elitist and overly critical dicks aside, this album is a blast.
And for the record, should anybody give a crap, I happen to like crystal clear and punchy production. I also like warm layered analog recordings. I also like raw and gritty productions where I can hear the subtle white noise of tape hiss in the background. So what.
I want to hear the music, regardless of the recording quality. It takes a lot for me to go ugh that just sounds so terrible that I can't listen. Even St. Anger, as bad as that sounds with it's muddy guitars, flat bass, and over-the-top metal pot snare, didn't drive me to that point.
It annoys the crap out of me when somebody will discredit music based on production values.
Production is an art form, and some bands use it as such to manipulate the impact of the music they're presenting. However, many artists just want a clear and full sonic representation of their music.
The notes and musical progressions on this album are still Revocation, regardless of drum triggers or a click track or a production value.
Some of y'all make some really arrogant statements, and to insult somebody because they don't agree with you, only confirms that arrogance.
Now get over yourselves.
Sheesh.

No body is really discrediting it because of the production, I think you need to dig a little deeper into the arguments. Kinda sucks because you went on that whole bitch tangeant.

No, it kinda sucks because you say things like
"sounds gay"
and
"Lol anyone who honestly thinks that this is better than electrocution should not be allowed to listen to metal. These guys are more processed and studio backed than the backstreet boys, they're the boy band of tech death"
and
"Kinda sucks because you went on that whole bitch tangeant."
So I'm guessing your only way of insulting somebody or something is somehow making them/it seem less masculine?
Are you 12 or 14?
