This is a very good review.
I think a lot of people went into this album the wrong way. They expected from the singles for it to be more of a classic-rock inspired record. While it is that, the band still have definitely not lost their roots. There is a lot of experimentation that may make this album not seem good to some.
Also, why is it that Arctic Monkeys can't seem to get away with being influenced by other groups? Some people condemned them for using a very Black Sabbath-influenced riff in Arabella. These same people didn't seem to have these same criticisms when Vampire Weekend was influenced by but borrowed entire lines from other artists in their new record (Step, for example). Arctic Monkeys aren't trying to hide their influences or "steal" from them; they are experimenting and giving nods to other artists that helped them create the music they make today.

Personally I couldn't say any of the songs from Whatever... are my favourite just because Turner's vocals were so weak on that album
But from a lyrical standpoint A Certain Romance is one of their best for sure
