Haha, the passion in that is huge isn't it. His honest tone throughout is what makes this so good, like the 'has the world gone mad' question, it feels completely genuine.

Especially as opposed to the kind of fake happy tone that was in half of the songs on Every Kingdom its a relief to hear something so genuine
Surprised I haven't seen Time is Dancing mentioned anywhere yet, probably the best example to me of how much he's changed since EK. That song has a good enough melody that with an acoustic guitar he probably could've made it a hit but instead he drowns it in that claustrophobic atmosphere and its oh so good

I remember reading something before writing this where he expressed concern about this being too dark/weird for fans of his debut, but he didn't seem to care and rightly so. He could've ruined the album by putting a catchy single on here to appease fans/get radio time, so glad he didn't.

I concur.
Why did it take me this long to notice how Nick Drake influenced this is? Especially In Dreams. Nick Drake is my go to whenever I'm depressed as well. Seems like he got dumped and locked himself in a room with all Nick Drake albums. Good idea.

Rowan do you have any recs for stuff like this and the new Damien Rice album? I can't get enough of them.

Hmm that's not an easy one. Defs check Damien's album O for something in a similar vein to Fantasy. If you want more general singer-songwriter material, I'd suggest 'Watching Angels Mend' by Alex Lloyd and 'For Emma, Forever Ago' by Bon Iver. That's about all I got I'm afraid
