Well, I guess that settles it
feels more like a LP to me, with the whole seven years thing

yeah it's sort of surprising considering that, but like it does only really have 4 "main" tracks

the LP/EP distinction is completely meaningless when it's a bunch of tracks on bandcamp

Currently loving this.
Anyone else get acoustic Sufjan vibes from "Golden Chords"?
|

wish i were in the mood to jam this. i'm so curious rn.

Never listened to animal collective, but I thought this was fun. The opening and closing tracks were enjoyable, but everything else just kinda mixed together. I think this is a release that I'll forget about in a few months. Kinda in one ear, out the other.

tbf it'd be pointless to listen to this if you absolutely nothing about AnCo
|
| |
/doesnt actually love animal collective tbh
/resents tcat84s assumptions
/asses have been made out of both U and ME

So I have to listen to a band before I can have an opinion on a solo project? makes sense.
Seriously though Pots, you and I have like no overlap when it comes to taste, so I'm not surprised we disagree here. Maybe I'll check out AnCo, but I have to find the time to listen to 10 albums.

"So I have to listen to a band before I can have an opinion on a solo project? makes sense. "
well i mean yeah it definitely helps to see where an artist has been to understand how they got to be where they are now thats for sure. listening to this without listening to a single animal collective song is like listening to one of chino morenos side projects without having ever heard a single deftones song and thinking that you can objectively signify its value. im sure some of chinos side projects would sound fresh and original as fuck if you had never heard deftones but if you have heard deftones you realize that they are just shitty knock offs.
"Seriously though Pots, you and I have like no overlap when it comes to taste, so I'm not surprised we disagree here. "
uh who said we disagree? i havent even peeped this yet
|
| |
Fair point Pots, but I think an album should be able to stand on it's own merit. Like I said, I'll check out AnCo sometime. They seem like something that would be cool to listen to.
|
| |
i agree, it should
i just think regardless of whether it can or cannot stand on its own merit is hard to gauge with no history to put it into perspective nahmsayin'?
its like
saying you're a phil colins fan without having ever heard of genesis
|
| |
Yeah, I get it. Perspective is kinda important with artists that have been around as long as AnCo has.
I really only checked this out because I was board and it was short.
Quick question. My only experience with psychedelic music is Tame Impala. Is AnCo similar to them, or are we talking about something totally different?
|
| |
AnCo is definitely a unique experience. They really have a style that is unique to them.
I cant really comment as to how similar Deakin's solo work is to AnCo as I havent heard any yet BUT all of the other members solo work sounds very very similar so i expect this probably does too.

This is up there with the best AnCo material for me, surprisingly great considering their new mediocre album.
|
| |
then u can probably confirm
is it as similar to AnCo as Panda Bear or Avey Tares stuff is?
|
| |
Well Pots, you've convinced me. AnCo will be the next thing I check out. I always try to broaden my horizons when it comes to music.

this kind of sounds like Person Pitch to me, but more ambient-driven. It's nothing like last few anco albums tbh. I don't remember all of their albums tho, not the biggest fan of some of their stuff.
