It doesn't seem as if Med's rating is indicative of what he thought of the album. Whether or not a 2/5 is poor or not to different people, the rating still says poor. It's too bad because this was a very good, objective review.

Just because a band is classified as 'progressive rock' doesnt mean all their songs have to be progresssive. Jambi is obviously the stand out here to me that wouldnt be prog but is probably my 3rd fav on this album after right in two and 10,000 days. why you ask? no sir, i ask you why you dont like it. with its almost annoying yet driving guitar riff, rediculously fast bass drum at the beginning and the ever improving work from Chancellor, how could you not like this song. lets not forget meynard's vocals either for they are fantastic on this song as are the lyrics. OH NO it ACTUAllY HAS A GUITAR SOLO!!!11!!!1!one! that means it HAS to be bad right. no. its just a step in a more normal direction which is where the band kinda wants to head in according to several recent interviews. Blame hoffman is a great lead up to Rosetta Stoned and i still really dont see the connection between Stoned and Third Eye. yes they are both hard and yes they are both 10 mins + but i dont see any of you clowns comparing Lateralus to Third Eye, even though they have the same principal meaning. BY GOD, lateralus has only THREE digits and a colon but third eye and Rosetta stoned, which has nothing to do with third eye lyrically, both have FOUR digits and a colon i guess they have to be the same. also, i see little correlation between the musicianship or music produced by stoned or third eye and i find PRYING OPEN MY THIRD EYE repeated 9876666678909876 times much more annoying than Sh!t The Bed. not that third eye isnt a good song, just that part. Right In Two is the new best anti-war song and definatly has its memorable moments like the great drum beat in the middle and ripping sound of the bass at the climax. i personally think that almost the entire Lateralus album was worse than this and found the patient and the whole dispositon-reflection-triad-faaip de oid thing a much bigger waste of time than lipan conjuring and blame hoffman . Tool is also adding back up vocals it appears which i dont think they have done in the past and it really adds alot more depth to the music and lastly, you call yourself open to alot of music and a listener of many genres yet you call A Perfect Circle mediocre. youve given your reasons and you will probably hide behind the 'eMotive sux' excuse but you dont have to count that as an album seeing as how none of the songs, even Passive, which is thanks to mainly danny lohner who last i checked isnt actually a member, is their own. Billy Howerdel created a great sound and to call it mediocre would almost surely make you a clown. luckily hes coming back for more later this year hopefully.

ya sorry about the length on that one and if it dosnt flow very well its because i had to cut it down to size. overall id say an open minded review but my reasons for disagreeing with you have been stated and so are my reasons for not understanding where you are coming from. Aenima is still my fav tool album and id give this probably an 8.5/10

I don't like it because it bores the hell out of me and goes on for ages. I didn't put the line about progressive music in there to say that all music must be progressive or something, I put it in there because I think Tool's best music is their progressive stuff, and Jambi is, to me, both boring and non-progressive.

The second half of your post is cool and everything, but we just have different opinions. :-/ I think a lot of Lateralus is great, you prefer a lot of this. I don't get why, but if that's what you think then that's cool.

I like a lot of music and listen to a lot of genres, including a lot of Alt Rock, which is what I'd call A Perfect Circle. I still think that they're mediocre. Even if we ignore eMotive, which is atrocious, Mer De Noms has a few good songs on and a lot of others that I simply can't remember, even though I used to be hugely into it. 13th Step is solid, but only has one song (Pet), that I'd call anything other than average. But that's just me.

Oh yeah, if that's what you think then that's fine by me. It's not like either of us can disprove what the other one is saying as it's entirely opinion-based...I just felt like responding. :-/ It's not like I ban people for disagreeing with me or arguing with me anyway.

I just can't get into Tool. I've tried but really the only song which I like is The Pot. And Schism isn't bad either. I've heard bits of this album, and it didn't shay my opinion on Tool.

This is not a good album to get into them though. Every other album besides their first is much better.

awesome review. i think the pot is a ray of hope for future albums. although i think wings for marie/10,000 days is a masterpiece even though its a bit on the soft side.

i am also one of those people that worship aenima/lateralus. come on though. i know they're better than this. MUCH better.

So are a lot of things.

I don't really like this album anymore. It's fading, and fading fast. Wings Part 1, Intension, and Right In Two are quite boring. Vicarious is too much of a Schism copy for me to enjoy fully, and Jambi is only okay. I guess this is a pretty good album, it certainly shows the flashes of brilliance that we've seen from Tool in the past.

the combination of Lipan Conjuring and Lost Keys (Blame Hoffman) are a waste of the studio time used to record them.

I like those "filler" tracks. They make the album pretty interesting, even though there's not really much music going on at the time.
