First heard Bonobo when I was 29 and felt much the same
My brother is a producer and loves this band, I get that he does what he does well but my attention wanders with this stuff is the truth
Granddad has the two previous on his iTunes so it's not down to a lack of effort on my part

i think there's a lot of crossover with alpe lusia is the thing, if you dig that i don't see why you'd be less favourable here

Alpe Lusia was more the exception that proves the rule I guess, album had a certain something. It was similarly 'lush' sounding to this sort of stuff but I felt it had an icy heart at its core or some such guff. There was emotion woven into it.
Bonobo's stuff just feels like pleasant multi layered ethno vibes. It's nice. Maybe it's because my brother loves it so deeply, a sibling rivalry block on my enjoyment.

This site needs the descriptors bit that RYM has:
For this album I'd list: mellow, atmospheric, the first bite of a fresh guava in dappled tropical sunlight, an illicit sniff of a yogi's sandal, your finger tips brushing a parrot's beak, a moment of reflection while in the surrounds of a pop up Vietnamese street food restaurant
|
| |
^that works better for days to come and black sands than it does for this and northern borders

its all so evocative of Saffrons gap year in Goa darling. You know when she experienced different cultures and shat through the eye of a needle for 2wks before using the credit card to go to Oz.

Sweet review, agree with it way more than RA's 2.4
"Bambro Koyo Ganda" is cool, kinda reminds me of that Clap! Clap! Tayi Bebba album. Would love to hear Bonobo do a whole album in that style

apart from maybe 3 tracks (kerala / surface / ontario) i couldnt enjoy this as more than background music. shame too as the rhye collab had so much potential
