Agree about the beat though, it really is almost the same for the entire album. After about four listens I don't see the appeal, will give it a few more spins.

There are some fantastic vocal moments on here, like the end of Aladdin, the "I'm scared" lines from both Through the Roses and North Star, the backing on Ran, the growl on Cave. Definitely the most powerful aspect.

On my first listen and this sounds like a very strong album.
Perfect contrib to cover this release of course ;) great review

this is pretty much on par with singles for me, disappointingly little variation between songs but i can't really fault their formula. wish there was a song like fall from grace for the frontman to really let loose though.

Surprisingly an absolutely perfect running album

Is it surprising? The lead single is called Ran mate

I have to say, I'm coming down from this a lot, but it's such a perfect album to jumpstart the summer. Ran is far and away the best thing here imo. Too catchy and sickly sweet to deny

I'm not too bright.
Good news is it means I'll listen to this twice as much thanks to that.
The album has this directness to it which might make it my favourite of theirs ahead of Evening Air, not sure yet

I think that's why I was able to 5 it so easily, it amplifies all of their strengths and it has more 'moments' than In Evening Air. I think it's easily better than Singles.

This is the first full album I've listened to by the band, altho I really enjoyed the 3 tracks I heard from singles

You should definitely spin In Evening Air in it entirety, it's a bit of a gem. Opening track and Long Flight are some of their best work.

Yeah I think I'll check it out. My feelings on this album are so mixed lately but I'm feeling it atm. One of the problems is how formulaic it all starts to sound after a while, but when the formula is this good it isn't necessarily a bad thing. I would have liked more variety, but when they're on, they're on (Aladdin, ran)

I think North Star provides a bit of variety in the middle of the album, it's like an old school pop tune, and then Shadows at the end has that amazing Debbie Harry feature. It's not a long album, I find it extremely listenable

Oh yeah no denying it's very accessible, and even though I find it samey, I never have a huge problem with it. Shadows is another highlight for sure, hauntingly beautiful stuff.
Love your avatar btw. Whiplash is an all time favourite of mine, despite some of its exaggerations for theatricality's sake

I like it. But for some reason the songs all kind of blend together to me. Nothing really stands out. Maybe im not paying enough attention when I listen to it

oof, the bass real good on this one and Sam continues to prove he's one of the best indie vocalists out there today. I get the homogeneous complaint people are throwing out, though it seems like the consistency that will melt away as more listens show each track has something special. Though that feeling is just based off my first listen, so who knows?

I had this on repeat for about 2 hours last night while playing boggle with my gf and I like it a lot more now. Noticed some songs that didn't stick out as much before, like cave.

the delivery of Cave's second verse is so good.
Is this a desperate wish for dying?
Or a wish that dying cease?
The fear that keeps me going and going and going
Is the same fear that brings me to my knees
