Halfway through this and I am liking it a lot. Feels good to be wrong

Yeah dude it's actually not too bad, I gave it a listen earlier today and it was better than I thought it would be. The bonus tracks are interesting. Karelia is pretty much a 7 minute throw away and The True Morning Star sounds like it could be Whoracle-era In Flames acoustic stuff

I really like the closer but little else. Aside from the odd glimmer and a fantastic vocal perfromace from Niilo, I found this an arduous and gruelling listen at times.
First time I've ever been disappointed by these guys.

Disappointing but not terrible

Bells, The Offering and Mute Is My Sorrow shoulda been scratched, very average and predictable songwriting on those. What pisses me off a bit is Neverlast, potentially a great track but ruined by a terrible terrible chorus hook..

Really want to love this, but it's pretty long and not that varied. It's not a bad record at all though

I just feel like they have forgotten how to write compelling sad jams... its just too melodic now

I've been listening at the office, and even though I can't be 100% focused on the music, I've been enjoying the album.

I quite enjoy this one. Not quite as thematically solid as Winter's Gate but there are some CHOICE jams on this

Listening at work, and I like what I have heard, even if I am not able to really sit and listen to it properly. Will put some more time into it over the weekend.

huh, kinda surprised by the reaction here. it's hard to compare this to Winter's Gate, but I will say I like it more than Shadows of the Dying Sun. best since One for Sorrow imo

I enjoyed the album, but its more of the same which isn't bad but it leaves me wanting more. Excellent review btw.

It's more of the same agreed, but it's still solid. It's somewhere between a 3.5 and a 4 for me. Compared to their previous material, it's uninspired, but in the realm of current melodeath it's a very competent record. I don't see myself returning to it often and honestly expected much more after Winter's Gate, which I thought was their best record since ATWW.

Probably gonna settle on a good old fashioned 4 with me

I thought this was gonna be more like Across The Dark, which I thought was boring as hell. That said, all their albums kinda sound the same anyway

The drums in some songs are kinda boring ctrl+c ctrl+v for me in here, I only listened to the whole thing once but I think i expected more and to be honest im really easy to impress when we are talking about melodeath. Lets see if it grows or not, nice review mate btw and Im with you in most things, maybe it will be a 3-3,5 for me.
