It's their second worst, man

"I think my favorite MDB album is Turn Loose the Swans, but for the modern stuff it's definitely The Light At the End of the World."
The Light at the End of the World is my pick for their worst album. It's just boring AF. Such a disappointment after how refreshingly original and atmospheric 34.788% Complete was. Like Gods of the Sun is their second worst.
Top 2 for sure are Turn Loose the Swans and Songs of Darkness, Words of Light. After that, it's kind of a toss-up between As the Flower Withers, The Angel and the Dark River, 34.788% Complete, and A Line of Deathless Kings.

What about The Dreadful Hours? That's one of their best man

honestly i don't get the hate it gets. my body a funeral, fall with me, dantuario di sangue and death triumphant are all fucking stellar tracks.

I like it, but I prefer the original version of The Return of the Beautiful and that's a really big part of the album. I think most of their stuff is about the same level of quality.

Dreadful Hours is their best agreed

Was quite surprised to hear that Calvin, the guitarist left the band in 2019 because there were some great riffs on here, I don't know the guy who his playing with them now, but if he wrote those riffs, he's a great player.
Particuarly love the riff on the song 'To Outlive the Gods' listen to that song you'll hear the riff I mean, it sounds so sad and sorrowful and pretty, to me.

I like all their stuff but I'm one of the people who really like the heavier, Death Metal stuff, like on As the Flower Withers and Turn Loose the Swans. Stainthorpe's growls on Turn Loose the Swans, are fucking great. So sinister.

Their other founding guitarist wrote all the music for this album. For whatever reason, he's also the one that wrote all the music for The Angel and the Dark River album.

Agree with The Light being awesome, also one of the first to get me into MDB. Same level as Dreadful hours for me probably.
New album is similar to Feel the Misery after first listen.. good but nothing truly memorable...

this sorta dipped for me and now it's really come back up for me, really enjoying this right now. the subdued quality really reminds me of 'a map of all our failures' and i'm very happy to see a return to that vibe.

I still enjoy the two pre-release songs, but I'm not finding myself coming back to the whole album very much... but when I do, it' still a great album.

They are. I just generally stop after track 3 now that I'm not listening to review. It's kind of an oppressive album (in a good way).
