Ok. First impression. Didnt realise it was 45 speed and 33 speed shit me up 'TF IS THIS!!??' after sorting that I enjoyed it BUT wasnt particularly blown away by any of it which is rare. Im glad its not a Mass because it doesnt feel like a mass its different.Im willing to take this as something different Caro, The colour of the album etc etc I think there will be a Mass 7 in the not too distant future but whatever. Its more spacious and more doom and less sludge which is surprising. Spoken word parts break up the flow a bit but they dont bother me. They were there on 6 (if shorter) All the really good parts have Caro on them and you can tell Lennart was the main writer for this as theres loads of kinda Oathbreaker melodies. What amenrra have always done so well is the opposites the light/dark, black/white,good/evil representing in that clean/heavy blueprint. Theres generally been a build up or huge riff that youre pummelled with them, some space to breath then BANG, again Usually a few minutes longer to ensure its beaten out of you, sometimes with a final change at the end ala Thurifer/The pain is shapeless/Golden Needle etc etc This kinda just feels like you get half of that. Like Id still say strong songs but just not what you expect from Amenra. The climax never really comes, the explosion never really comes. Its kinda just leads you along like a dirty ex girlfriend haha Like a lapdance or some shit (apart from the closer which I do still love) I dunno. Its different. I think it will be a grower but yeah can see why people wouldnt be super into it but also get why people would. I couldnt really throw an immediate score on it. Maybe 3.7 if pushed.

Second listen. Opener is actually really good. And the last track is really good. So inbetween weve got the 5 min dark ambient poetry bit, which is fine I dont hate it.. 'De evenmens' as ive said since it come out I like the first half but that cresendo eurometl but just loses me. The Solitary Reign noobs will love that shit no doublt but hats not wht I enjoy about amenra but I expected that tbh so youre left with 'Het Gloren' which I was told is the best on it. I mean...It starts pretty well but then just fking stops , goes into that acoustic part then kicks in again. Its like 2 separate tracks. No transition just a stop and start. So theres 2 i enjoy , 2 I don't and some poems which for me is the same as 6 but the 2 I dont particularly like on there I like more than the 2 here. Plenty of time for them to grow but yeah Im hitting a 3.5 and an air of dissapointment tbh. The flemish doesnt bother me at all. Its a call back to their homies.

yeah, I really love the opener, and really like the last 1.5 min of het gloren. theres some really good stuff on here, and while I am not a fan of spoken word stuff I think the fact that I cannot understand the words makes me somehow notice it less/not cringe. like i hardly notice the spoken word section now when listening to de evenmens.

also, i think the fact that they wrote these songs for a particular event shows in the structure of the album/a song like het gloren. hard to describe what i mean exactly.

Just speaking to a mate now who's Dutch and looooong time Ra fan. Show going, done some collabs with them etc and he said exactly that man the Dutch really hit home with him.



Agree on de evermaans too I wasn't into the spoken word but don't mind it now it's that crescendo part I cannot stand. Hoping het glorren' grows on me
