It's not a 5, but has some of their most exciting experiments on it.. A lot of good stuff on this album..

Album Rating: 4.0
it's held up the best of every album of theirs and i've been listening to them as long as i can remember. granted that could be because it was never played as much as the others
i wouldn't be surprised if the rating bumps down eventually but damn

this is my favorite album of theirs although war and unforgettable fire give it a run for its money (UF would beat it if a lot of the back half was replaced by the b sides)
i dig like half of their albums hard and the other stuff is hit and miss at best but i have a lot of personal sentiment for their stuff since theyre one of the first bands i ever got into

my ranking goes
this>war>unforgettable fire>achtung>joshua tree>zooropa>boy>dismantle>leave behind>horizon>rattle and hum>october>innocence but the last 4 are all pretty mediocre for different reasons

not sure what my ranking would be these days but this is in the top 5
used to be in top 3 with ATYCLB & Joshua Tree but War has prob knocked it out

Achtung Baby > Pop > War > Joshua Tree > Atomic Bomb > Zooropa > Boy > All That You Can't > Unforgettable Fire > No Line
I haven't heard October or Songs of Innocence nearly enough to give an accurate ranking
and frankly, haven't heard UF or No Line that many times either (though my indifference toward those atm is part of why they are where they are in my ranking)
UF has some songs I love but in general it just sort of feels like a transitional record to me. I rarely feel an urge to listen to it when I've got War & Joshua instead
I've always loved this though, there's something really fun & thrilling about the "fuck it, we'll do what we want and ride in a huge lemon afterward" approach they were taking during this whole era. this was an album & era where U2 reached an almost complete disregard for the public opinion and milked it hard

"Pride" just came on autoplay tho & that track alone is wanting me to bump UF up a couple of spots, lol

joshua>unforgettable fire>war>achtung>zooropa>this>boy>dismantle>leave behind>no line>rattle and hum>october>innocence prob but the top 4 are very interchange

man, I listen to this record front to back and normally i'll understand when I like a record that other people don't - but here, I just don't get how people could hate this
the only explanation is that traditional U2 fans are, in a word, simple

Yeah I can appreciate pretty much every song on here. It's nowhere near their best, but it's consistent with some really great songs.
