I wish the song structures here weren't so predictable, the performances are all pretty good here imo.
No scrams is sad tho.

That was a short ride. 33min with 3 interludes really?
Middle part (feed your soul through Jailbreak) is kinda weak but I like the singles and the 3 last songs. goldfish chorus reminds me of satellites in its simplicity and effectiveness. And Octopus sounds like an anime opening, love it.
Overall it's mid-tier shikari at best on the first listen, hope it grows a little.

Goldfish is a massive fake out with that riff at the start, I was expecting something heavy throughout. I dig the song though

Not one song on this particularly stands out. There's nothing I'd consider 'awful', but the whole album just kinda bops along without any real peaks. Even their worst albums had highlights.
That being said, with all the callbacks and comparisons, this album definitely feels more of a celebration of Shikari rather than something to push them forward.

I was already worried with the short runtime. The first spin is keeping me interested, because it wasn't bad at all and their albums tend to be growers.
Giant Octopus is fun!
Agreed, one listen isn't enough

'all es is great except spark and common dreads'
Wtf, literally their two best albums
'I wish the song structures here weren't so predictable'
Yeah I agree with this too. Can't help but think Rou has gone backwards with his composition and lyricism. I'm still not happy with the lazy bridge lyrics on Satellites and the lyrics here just lack substance

Also yes the lyrics callbacks are pretty lame and feel forced.

"Mindsweep is their weakest album imo"
i am officially triggered by how bad this take is

Agreed. Arguably one of their strongest releases.

Surprised at how much y'all like Dead Wood, I think it might be one of their worst songs written.
Spinning it all day and it will stay in the 3.5 territory now. Highlights are pls set me on fire, jailbreak and Giant Pacific Octopus.
Wondering which of the new songs they're gonna play next month at Slam Dunk hmm

Why are these guys also so inconsistent in their production... This record sounds so shit again, while the last one sounded good. The one before sounded bad, and then the one before that sounded great... UGH

I don't think Rou's production style suits the soundscape of this album. I also wish they used a different producer

dang this really fizzles out toward and at the end
