Entwistle could be subtle though, that's a point I've been trying to make. That's what makes his amazing lead parts so much more valuable.

It's possible to use dynamics without just being subtle. In fact, that's the nature of the word. One needs to stand out as well as be able to stay back to use dynamics fully. And JPJ stood back much too often to be said to be great with dynamics. Besides, subtlety without creativity is worthless. Consider songs where Entwistle took a back seat to the song as a whole, there are plenty of examples. Eminence Front, for example. Entwistle lays the groove down but keeps it interesting.

I prefer Zeppelin over the Who but I wouldn't even hesitate on calling John the better bassist.
Nonetheless, JPJ is pretty cool. Especially after hearing his solo album Zooma.

No, I don't really. I think Entwistle is the overall greater bassist, as we've already discussed. I don't care who you like more, personal preferences aside. And for the record, a lot of people in the forums without Who avatars clearly say that Entwistle is a greater bassist.
Oh, and someone with "Whole Lotta Led" as their username just said Entwistle is greater too.

Hey wow. My mind is totally changed.
I think John Paul does his job better and with more diversity. Alot of what Entwistle does is up at the front of it all, and I think John Paul is better with knowing how to play and when to play it.

The point was that just because I have a Who avatar and appear to be a "fanboy", it doesn't mean that I'm the only person with that opinion, in fact many many people believe that. the fact is, i have a great deal of respect for jpj and entwisle. but i like entwisle better because of the way he plays, the sound he gets, and his overall style. This Message Edited On 09.28.06
