The Lucius remix of Inaudible is better than it should be

This album is good, but apart from Cope it's probably my least favourite MO album, so in that sense it was a bit disappointing.

This album means so much to me that it's actually kind of hard to qualify. ABMttS is still the standard-bearer, but this probably edges Simple Math for my 2nd favorite MO. It's just so well-produced and fluid, and some of the cryptic themes become elucidated after a few hundred listens (lol). I think part of my attachment was having this promo a month in advance of its release, and basically obsessing over it for that duration as it also became the soundtrack to me contracting Covid right before the Delta surge. So many of the lyrics ended up becoming important to me during that period, where I was self-isolating from my son and my wife who was pregnant with our second child at the time. The lyrics here are often intentionally vague, but there are loose motifs abound relating to death and trying to shield your family from harm. My initial review of this was something like 11 paragraphs long, but the day after I posted it I pared it down to what you see now for practical reasons. Still, the time I spent researching the lyrics and their connection to ABMttS are now some of my very favorite music-related memories, and definitely enhanced my enjoyment of this record. When I listen to it now, I'm transported to all those moments in a blink and it's actually very hard to believe that it's been nearly a year since it all began with the label dropping MMOG right into my inbox like it was nothing. For a band that had climbed to my #1 spot and filled the void left by BN, it meant more to me than probably anyone else receiving that promo. I think my eyes welled up ever so slightly the first time I heard this and realized how gorgeous it is.

Yeah it was my AOTY last year and probably the one I listened to the most. My go to jam when I'm in the car with my girl because we're both still pretty much in love with it.

For me it's: Black Mile > MMOG = Simple Math > Virgin > METN > Hope/Cope (I know they're different but they're the same)

Man Mean Everything that low? i think it's their most convincing statement as a rock band

METN was the album that got me into the band, but I always felt like the big rock hits from it were a bit...cliched? Shake It Out is a rollickin' good time, but the chorus feels super forced to me, and same with I've Got Friends. People hype Tony the Tiger as a gem but I don't really get that either. On the other hand, I Can Feel a Hot One is 100% the kind of MO track I vibe with -- which prob explains my affinity for their sleeker emotional stuff, like Black Mile and this record. Don't get me wrong, METN is still excellent (I think I have it at a 4), oh and I forgot to mention The River as another huge standout that really drew me to follow this band's future albums (Simple Math was the one that elevated these guys from "good band" to "one of my favorite bands").

MMOG > Black Mile > METN > Simple Math > Virgin (haven't heard Cope).
Black Mile and MMOG are pretty on par tho. Black Mile can be an exhausting listen from time to time.
