I'm still trying to get into this, I've given it 3 full run throughs but it hasn't grabbed me yet

A modern classic this one, as bringonthebreakdown says the last three tracks are where its at, simply stunning, what a way to close an album.
EDIT: Between two words & The Starting are also fantastic songs.

I can remember the intro riff to As The Storm Unfolds but that's the only thing that's stuck with me

I didn't realise these guys had such close ties to *shels or that some of them were in relatively established bands before

Didnt dig this much, any point going through B&C? Or even Empire of Light.
|

I prefer B&C over this but the majority will disagree with that. B&C has a cleaner production though.
Stay away from EOL but check out B&C.

Went through the first 4 tracks of B&C, no doubt guise, so good. Must listen to the full extent of it.

checking out this band as they're supporting Sylosis in the UK next week, odd choice since it's a completely different genre but i'm liking it far more than i thought i would after looking the band up.

is this generally considered their best then?

a lot of people prefer Blessed & Cursed, like me
with regards to their supporting Sylosis, they are good friends and out of the same scene basically

is this generally considered their best then? There's no real consensus. This is their darkest, sludgiest album, while Blessed & Cursed was a lighter affair with some post-hardcore leanings (especially in the vox) which was praised for its songwriting and overall cohesiveness. I guess I'd take B&C over this, but by a small margin. It all depends on which type you prefer: the sludgy, darker post-metal type of this one or the lighter, warmer (so to say) style presented on B&C.
Not many people would say that their latest is their best, though.

Why is Converge listed in the band description?
