honestly I could see this being a 4.5 in the future -- just on account of how much I can see myself listening to it... record is so versatile in that sense, know what I mean? as opposed to their last, which was pretty headphones only/studying, for me

in one of their interviews someone mentioned their music as being kind of an emotional rorschach test, where people tend to hear different emotions in each track, and disagree with others about them. i think it's pretty appropriate and it speaks to the versatility of their music in the way you are talking about.
in other words, agreed.

It’s interesting you responded that way about “Summa Time.” To me that song sounds tense, determined and dark for sure. I think a lot of what we do seems to be a sort of Rorschach Test in terms of mood, which is the way I like it. It feels amazing, seeing the variety of responses to our work. It’s becomes very self-affirming, makes me feel like we’re doing things right. What we’re doing now is different from our early stuff; we’re not doing “lo-fi” music at all. We are trying to make a big, bombastic production, something that lies closer to a “real” “album.” One of the most classic rap records to me is ATLiens by Outkast. That’s the kind of record I aspire to make with 808s III. can't fuckin wait to hear this album

this keeps growing on me kind of. the only complaint i could possibly come up with is that the album is too long to fit on one CD for my car :c
