id rate octavarium a 5 but the songwriting seems too linear, not enough direction, its not as broad of a feeling that you get from the other DT albums

I like Octavarium better than this too. Octavarium is very close to a 4. Systematic Chaos might get bumped down to a 3 as well, it's grown off me quite a bit.

Systematic Chaos sounded good at first cause it was like the 3rd or 4th DT album I listened to, when I listened to the rest it didn't sound so good anymore. That said, I still rock out to Constant Motion and The Dark Eternal Night occasionally.

i remember awhile ago clicking on a sputnik news article that was about a new dream theater song which turned out to be "forsaken" that was my first dream theater song i heard and loved it but never checked them out for a couple more years

Eh, for me it's cheesy fun. Portnoy's "death vocals" are extremely bad though. The whole album is completely cheesy really, but I think it's still enjoyable, just crappy for them.

Yeah. I mean, they made two amazing albums (SFAM and this), and then two that weren't AS good, but still great... and then Systematic Chaos was just average. I was quite disappointed with it. Haven't checked out BCSL yet, though.
