Well, I don't like reading into lyrics unless the intent has been officially clarified by the artist. Given that I'm German it also helps in this case.

Mhm, hard to say to be honest. Rammstein actually has some pretty cool lyrics.
I do like Benzin, both lyrically and musically. I'd have to revisit some of their material, though.

Wolfhorde, being German and all, what is your definitive opinion on this album, which is often considered
their best work?

Hard to say. It's definitely a good album with some really good songs. (Sonne, Links 2 3 4, Feuer Frei, Zwitter). While I have thought in the past still think to some degree that Rammstein is one of the more overrated German bands I can't say they're inconsistent.
I'd say that Sehnsucht and Mutter are somewhere in the same realm. I personally also like Rosenrot (Mann gegen Mann is great) and Reise Reise quite a bit.

Don't think I have a favourite album. I love them all equally. Sehnsucht is number one choice if I'm in the mood for an industrial sound.

A little late for an answer, but for me personally: Mein Herz Brennt, Moskau, Amour or Donaukinder. Can't really name just one, but they do have some great lyrics.
Also Mutter definitely my fave by them. One of my few 5s
