the opening of "black tide" hit me like a flashlight in the face. i was not ready for it at all. it isn't even all that heavy of a song, but the three preceding songs had gently cradled my boat in the night. sunshine in the afternoon just doesn't have this effect.

So you basically haven't listened to anything by them but an EP

Endless Light is also worth checking out, unless you end up hating this one.

Man, this is a great review. Finally got around to reading it and re-listening. Reading some of the lyrics pulled me in a lot more. Expecting this to keep growing.

i was hoping for endless light 2.0, and this album sounds entirely.. not like that. while still being an o'brother album. i love it, but i'm also disappointed???

Ending song sounds a bit half-baked. Initial impression is this is a step back for these guys, or maybe I just prefer the energy of their last one.

Interesting that this ends so abruptly, while the closer on their last album ends with 4 minutes of ambience

Update - had this on repeat all day and now I love it.

Getting some Marilyn Manson vibes from Slipping, in a good way. Reminds me of is slower, moodier songs
