Dreamcar absolutely bangs. But yeah, it's definitely a different vibe to this album though there are some similarities.

Glad Dulceria is getting some love, it's a top tier afi song.

Review could definitely be shortened to “It’s an AFI album” and nothing would really change. This album is so run of the mill for them it’s kind of disappointing, it’s still good but it’s just that

It's really funny seeing the sentiment that this is a run of the mill AFI album here when half of the comments on the band's social media pages are about how this "isn't AFI anymore". I'm sure a good chunk of those comments are from people that still haven't moved on from the year 2000 but I have seen quite a few that suggest Bodies in particular is the bridge too far for them.

"I think Twisted Tongues is a terrible opener."

i think in the context of the album, kinda but on its own, I feel like it was the perfect choice for both an intro and as a single.

Dreamcar is fun as fuck. it's like Crash Love + all of the sugar a typical 10 year old can handle

i love how there are still disappointed comments like "AFI isn't punk anymore" from fans that haven't liked em since STS. if you haven't cared since then why come back lmao, do you expect some return to form?

and yet at the same time, there's obvious punk influence in every post-sts album

I've cared about them even through their most boring post-StS shit, for the official record!

They just REALLY want more songs about cereal and how Davey doesn't want to fuck you.

I'm still consistently disappointed the way some of these songs just...end. On Your Back for example - I love this song, but it ends so damn abruptly that I don't even have enough time to full enjoy it. It was like they put no thought into how to end that song. That could have been one of the best songs on the album if they fleshed it out more.

Black Sails in peak punk for me. i don't need any more music like that because I have that and oh boy, it is still perfection.

Honestly, DU was terrible. One or two songs worth saving. The last two albums are many times better.

I agree that their work after DU was better than DU but man... The Killing Lights, The Missing Frame, 37mm, The Interview... some really great stuff. I think the production on Bodies captures some of that cold and clean atmosphere from those tracks. Endlessly, She Said will always be a favorite of mine as well.

The Killing Lights and 37mm were the two songs I was thinking of.

37mm is dank. Honestly thought DU was pretty great it's just the good songs weren't the as popular ones. Looking back if they made something like DU I'd pick it over an album like this. The review explains how afi got to this point pretty well but I'd also take into account the side projects and their influence too. Blaq Audio has definitely expanded in scope and sound since CexCells which makes it feel like their most successful band going on atm imo. Xtremist was ok I guess but follows the same exact issue afi is is that the songs just don't feel as imaginative, fun, or energetic anymore. Even on Crash Love there was a ton of that that I think a lot of people overlook since that was when they completely dropped the pretense of being punk anymore. Not that they have to be but when people say they miss afi when they were punk its easy to point out why because they made perfec tmusic from 98-03.

I like DU a lot, but it's not StS again at all.

Yeah, I strongly, strongly disagree with the claim that DU is just STS again.
