Good review but I think you overate the crap out of this album. It's pretty meh to me, when it's good it's really, really good, but there are just to many mediocre moments and songs for this to be above 3.5. Sorry.

I'm sort of with Drunken Viking. I mean, it's a spectacular album, but by no means a classic. While you seemed to love the breakdowns, I didn't think too highly of them. They seemed to be the generic pounding, instead of developing any real melody and flow, like breakdowns to songs like The First Noble Truth do. I think metalcore was waiting so long for a savior, and when a halfway decent album appeared, everyone jumped on it. My 4 could easily fall to a 3.5 or lower very soon.

The rating has now gone down to a 2/5. But I have found one song I like. The first song, 'This Glorious Nightmare.'

I can understand why you guys don't think as highly of this album as I do, but I just can't help it. These guys just write riffs and breakdowns that always appeal to me. If you want to state your other opinions, I encourage you to review this album also.

I just picked up this album and it fucking kicked my ass all the way back home! I just felt like driving into something as hard and as fast as I could. lol This cd is by far one of the best "metalcore" (or whatever the hell kind of metal you wanna call it)albums out there right now. Dude, Great review by the way!

The words "good" and "metalcore" arent usually used in the same sentence now a days. But this album is a true example of progression in metalcore. The guitars, the drums, the vocals are all exceptional on this album. I never thought metalcore could be this good.
I think Giles could be one of the best metalcore songs ever made. The whole band comes up huge on that song. I love the little lead part that Buzz plays.

I might as well put in my thoughts...Tattered On My Sleeve by All That Remains definitely needs to be on such a list.

You forgot to mention that the entire second half of the song is orgasmic. As soon as the acoustic guitars kick in the rest of the song is perfection. It's actually probably my favorite metalcore song.

Yeah, Revolver magazine wrote that these guys recorded this album without any click tracks to make it seem less machine like. While their riffing is really tight and together, it still manages to show some real power and emotion from their playing.
|

What dumb idea, luckily these guys pulled it off.
