I’ve never thought they “sold out” honestly. Their music just got significantly worse after Love is Love imo

Good on Jami for showing some self awareness at least. He was on the Bein Ian pod which is just the best move lmao

“Also Yowi please review this your Underneath piece is one of my fave user revs in ages”
omg thank you! Honestly I was kinda apprehensive about reviewing another Code Orange because I didn’t want to seem overbearing about the band but if people are interested in what I have to say I could come up with something

Been trying to find the words to describe my feelings on this. At the core I want their heavier material and that only. It feels laboring through some of the other sonic aspects of this just to get to a riff. Part of me wishes some of the soft/rock stuff was just another project all together (Mirror, I Fly, Snapshot, Circle Through), although I do enjoy Take Shape and Splinter The Soul.
A lot of parts in the first half I dig. End of Never Far Apart rips, Theater of Cruelty, Drone. Not sure how much I even love the heavy singles. Back half of the album feels bloated. The entire project just needs more cohesion in regards to its genre-direction.
The main feeling I come away with is that nothing on this record tops the feeling I got when I first heard Swallowing the Rabbit Whole.

Well said.
It kinda sucks that Game and Replacement are the only pure ass beaters on here and they released them as singles.

Yeah, this is a challenging album to digest. I -think- I like it, but I feel like it's a little too melodic than I'd like the band to be. I wish The Game and Grooming weren't released as singles as it kinda blunts the heaviness of the second half of the album. I'd imagine those songs would be much more impactful if I hadn't played the hell out of them leading up to the release of the album.
Also, as much as I like his screams and his antics as a frontman, I'm not sold on Jami's singing.

Really digging the grunge elements they've incorporated this album and nu metal breakbeat/drum samples. Show me what you got gatekeepers.
|
| |
grunge and nu-metal are the worst kinds of guitar music and somehow the lame wits in chode orange decided to embrace both
like, fucking hell, guys
fucking hell

I dont want to be "searching" for pit riffs on a Code Orange record.
God dammit the more I sit on this the more frustrated i am.

"The main feeling I come away with is that nothing on this record tops the feeling I got when I first heard Swallowing the Rabbit Whole."
Agreed. I walked away from hearing that song blown away by how unique it sounded with some of the production choices, the intentional, glitchy cut out, while still being super heavy. Nothing comes close to that for me on here.

I am trying to give this an earnest shot but..like..what?! Nothing gels. Nothing flows. Nothing gains momentum to head anywhere. This is borderline unlistenable.
