It's kinda curious to me that many people are referencing this album's length when speaking on elements of it that prevent them from getting into it. It really doesn't seem that long to me, at 51 mins. I guess if this sound isn't something that appeals greatly to your sensibilities, the album would begin to feel like a chore after a while. But speaking strictly from an element of time, it's really only barely above-average in terms of length.

I agree (that it's weird) despite being one of the ones to bring it, and doubly strange considering DEATH is over an hour long and I decidedly prefer that record. I guess I feel that that one is more...modular? Whereas this one is a tad more uniform, at least in terms of overall pace and sonic "intensity" (or whatever), at least to my ears, which definitely can make every subsequent minute feel a bit more exhausting. (Again, I do still like this, though, 3.0 is good.)

Also, I haven't jammed Death (the teitanblood album, heh) in probably a decade, so if your assessment of the dynamics of that album vs this album ring true, I'm in for a huge rating bump

This rips.
Also since we're discussing album lengths, I find that 35-40min is about the perfect length for just about any genre. It's easy to digest and never overstays its welcome that way. But overall length doesn't really bother me too much. I just like to be able to listen from start to finish while on a commute or similar lol.

I mean how long an album *feels* is probably somewhat relative, right? Like tec said, if someone feels that the sound and pace and whatnot of an hour-long-plus album is more dynamic than a 50-minute album, the 50-minute album will undoubtedly seem longer to some.
I think the issue is engagement...the 50-minute album feels longer to some people because it is not as conceptually or aurally dynamic, thus making it seem like more of a chore for the listener to digest and stay engaged with as opposed to a 75-minute album that *is* engaging or dynamic to that listener.
I mean in that sense, it makes perfect sense to me. I was just musing out loud as to why that would be, and tec came along and laid it all out for us

I mean yeah. Slift's Ilion is like 1hr 20min but it feels like a breeze.

yeah Ford, 51 mins isn’t necessarily too long for me, but it is for this album / style. That’s all I meant. Probably a sign I just don’t like it all that much

I mean sushi is nice, but do I want 20+ pieces? No

true, you can have too much of a good thing
Then again, the appeal of this probably lies in the consistency of an engrossing sound / atmos or whatever. If you’re not fully on-board with the repetition in feel, aesthetic etc. then it’s probably a dead end from the start

Definitely as you're saying Demon, it's basically an immediate yay or nay whether you're into their thing or not
The last track here is double the length of the rest, even if it was half that, making an album of a bit over 40 minutes, I think someone would still not like how "long" it feels if they were not into it

The album is probably too long for it's intensity, but it's typical for them. It takes some kind of endurance or specific state of mind to listen through a whole thing. And if you accomplish that, it's a grower.
And paradoxically the most interesting song of the album for me is the longest one - Tomb Corpse Haruspex.

I don't necessarily mind longform song structures with a sound this intense, though I would pick a more grindcore style pacing with most any other genre. Normalize extremity! Btw, what do you guys think is the best war metal album of all time? I love what the genre is going for but it's also pretty limited in a way. I feel like there's a war metal 5 out there somewhere but I'm pretty sure I don't have any war metal rated over a 4.

My sample size is remarkably small but my highest rated "War Metal" album is Tetragrammacide - Primal Incinerators of Moral Matrix.
