if we only had the first six songs we wouldn't have killer mike saying that he supports the sex workers unionizing their services

First 6 songs might just be their best ever run of tracks.
That run alone gets this a 4.5 - rest is decent but nothing too special.

Last two tracks are also absolute killer.

Still need to work through the whole thing a few more times, but the first ten minutes of this are perfect. I dug "Ju$T" the first time through too.

‘Ooh La La’ like the greatest lost Cypress Hill joint
‘Goonies’ def my favourite
|

Easily there best. I thought RTJ 3 was hella boring, Just love the call outs to EL-Ps old beats/production on some of these tracks. Walking in the snow is SOTY

A review worthy of the album. Good shit.

Ooh la la is probably the most annoying song of the year right? How can anyone enjoy that hook? The only low point on the album for me

This is my favorite rap album since good kid maad city. There's a couple songs I'm still trying to come around to that are holding this off from the big ol' 5, but it's a truly astounding release. This and Mac Miller are both AOTY contenders for me halfway through 2020. (a lot more influences going on in that one besides rap, so hesitant to include that in the conversation re: best since good kid). But yeah, anyway, my early favorites are "Walking in the Snow", "Pulling the Pin", and "A Few Words for the Firing Squad". First half of the album is a 4/5, back half a 5/5 - it only gets better as it goes.

Can't wait to jam this for the first time today in the gym, did the same thing for RTJ3 and it really worked well in that setting. After that, i can get a better feel for the lyrics when listening at home

'Ooh la la is probably the most annoying song of the year right? How can anyone enjoy that hook? The only low point on the album for me'
I think it's meant to be a little obnoxious - i.e it's part of the attitude of the track
Was my interpretation.
One of the best on this for me.

Two weakest are 'The Ground Below' which is a little run of the mill and the Josh Homme guest feature...because it's a Josh Homme guest feature and as much as I like the dude he's an annoying influence sometimes because he turns everything into a slow desert dirge and the Mavis Staples vocal is a bit eh
|
| |
It's a minor inconvenience on an otherwise excellent song.
|
| |
Damn, the ground below was almost my favorite on first listen, partly because of that killer drum beat.

I think it's kinda self knowing - why I compared it to Cypress Hill where nearly every hook was annoying but at the same time the same hooks were also awesome for being annoying
Also - the fact it sounds little like any other RtJ tune is a massive positive, their albums can get too same'y/locked in the groove

Black Lives Matter is incredibly important and protests calling out systemic racism not just in the police force (although that is a crux and synecdoche) but all areas of life are to be encouraged at all times.
This should not be its soundtrack.
