Metallica are middle aged multi millionaires, they have nothing to prove. what did you expect

I like this one quite a bit, and I don't really understand why a lot of people (who like older 'Tallica at least) don't. To each their own I suppose.

Say what you will about the songs on this album, but this ENTIRE album is distorted. The mastering engineer pushed the limiter too hard and everything on this album is too loud. Thanks to Rick Ruben and his genius idea to make this the, "loudest album ever," he sacrificed quality for some inane idea of being better because it's louder. I don't think the song writing came very far for Metallica to be putting this sort of god awful post-production on the shelves. Even if the songs were great, I couldn't listen to it. It pierces my ears. Stop distorting records and just let me turn up the volume myself!

McDiggitz, I like you, can we be friends

Was it actually Rick's fault though?
I remember an interview with the band and they said that Rick was hardly around much, and had pretty much disappeared by the end of it.
Greg Fidelman was a mixer, and Ted Jensen was the masterer. And he's renowned for wearing boxing gloves in the studio if you know what I mean.
