Yeah, no. Not as good as the two previous albums.

hmmm. Reaching Home, Burning the Midnight Oil, or Awake, Storm Warning, OR denying gravity and a surreal state of enlightenment.
winner goes to Silhouettes, then Drawing Circles, and last with this release.

I agree. I prefer this to any other math metal release though.

Definitely have to listen to this a few more times. Seems like I'm never even remembering this album exists.

lol the vocals are the least of this record's problems. this isn't that bad, but not as good as I wanted it to be.

Spent a week listening to their entire discography, again, including the new album. It's still the same in that it just feels forced. Everything feels so overly forced it sickens me. While there is more diversity on one album than the entire Meshuggah discography they just lack the atmosphere and dedication. If this were an instrumental band it might be an entirely different story...yes it still wouldn't be that convincing but the vocals, be it new or old, are overly forced, overly trying to convince me, just like the music. It's like transforming Maynard's ego into music, something not even he does (fortunately). And the vocals, though far better than for example the vocals of Periphery annoy me more than Periphery vocals, it's like the vocals of Bullet for My Valentine, or those annoying little brats knocking on your door trying to sell you cookies day in day out.
This album is still better than their previous efforts, though most will disagree. It's also a lot more like Meshuggah than their previous work. The clean vocals are much better than previous albums, are less forced and overall the band feels less like an attention whore. It's still just a minor improvement though.

The only problem with this album is the production of the vocals.

Yeah they're pretty weak sounding.
I listened to this again yesterday and realized just how ho-hum it is overall.

TEXTURES/STRUCTURES/SUBSTRUCTURES/TOWERS/VOLUMES/PLANKS/NYLONS/POLYESTERS/
You have to remember that Textures did that a whole bunch of something before all those faggots did. Plus it's named after a Cynic song so like yeah.

lol Sanguine Draws The Oath pretty much ripped off Goliath by Karnivool.
They could have at least made it a little more different.

Spot on review mate, pos'd.
I actually like Eric's singing a bit more, but it also depends on the songs. de Jongh is great too.
Production could have been slightly better, to say the least.

Thanks man. The production on this one seems fine to me. I can see though why you don't like it. It's a bit thin around the edges. The album doesn't necessarily jump on you soundwise. I found it quite refreshing tbh.

wish de jongh kept the growls to Cilice level, other than that some of the songs here are better than what they put out before
