"Bong’s Statement: “It is a tongue-in-cheek dig at our usual classification as stoner rock and what the term has come to represent. The idea is to create our own definition of ‘stoner rock’ by creating an album so utterly stoned and repetitive to be a million miles away from the usual definition.”
…they continue…
”Those who know Bong already will get both the humour and the philosophical redefinition… those who don’t know us will either get it when they listen or will never understand BONG at all.”"
this section reeks of pretentiousness... their band is called bong for chrissakes how do they expect to be taken seriously whatsoever

I find the fact that you throw around the word pretentious without having any idea what pretentious means to be pretentious.

''this section reeks of pretentiousness... their band is called bong for chrissakes how do they

Good question, how about because they have been creating and putting out interesting music for
years? Of course one could just fall into the blindingly obvious trap that they have so effortlessly
set by assuming you know something about the band before actually listening and then write them off.
Yes it is pretentious, well done.
Curious are the people who critique this band expecting it to sound less like their name alone might
initially suggest (the sound of a large bell once struck). A better question would be why do those
people expect to be taken seriously themselves?
If you think that the name BONG is a cliché unbeknownst to the band themselves, please investigate
that thought further before splurging out onto your keyboard and show an ounce of consideration for
those pretentious music nerds out there that might actually have a fucking clue.
Seriously though if anyone is diggin' this or is at least curious as to what this band can deliver
and hasn't yet delved further, I would highly recommend that you listen to the track 'In The Shadow
Of The Towers' as the drum patterns are truly hypnotizing beyond ancient space.. man
Sincerely, a butthurt stoner cliché

I mostly agree but I think you're getting confused with a 'gong' mate

Haha funnily enough they did actually name themselves Bong as a sort of sarcastic nod to the band 'Gong' ..I read that somewhere recently, I meant to include that in my initial maniacal ramblings damn it.

Pretentious: claiming to be deeper than you actually are
These guys are tounge-and-cheek, NOT pretentious.
Pretentious would be along the lines of Zardoz, Avatar, and Metal Machine Music.
