It's a love-hate relationship

There are moments of the first track that remind me of some of the stuff off Mastodon's "Remission". At least, right at the beginning.

Well im not a huge mastodon fan tbh. Especially everything after crack the skye. Figured itd be a contentious claim tho. I do love blood mountain and leviathan a lot

Pretty weird comparison anyways, they both play vastly different styles.

Concert last night with Obsidian Tongue was stellar. Like, 50 people in the whole place. I love tiny concerts in the middle of nowhere. The drummer was especially on point -- his sixteenth-note tom rolls are super smooth. Really cool, hypnotic show.

saw Obsidian Tongue with Agalloch a few years ago. they were great live, unfortunately their records are really middle of the road.

Seen Agalloch once, wish I could remember more of that gig... they even had a couple of incense wood logs on stage to give it that foresty feeling

Seeing Obsidian Tongue play "A Nest of Ravens in the Throat of Time" with Haughm doing vox was one of the best live songs I can recall seeing - far better than anything on Agalloch's set that night.
Falls' show in Portland last Thursday was ace, these guys always put on a good performance. There was probably 150 or so at Space Gallery, good turnout by the hometown crowd.

Based on their previous releases, I never would have expected this to be one of my favorite albums of 2017. This has grown on me so much over the past month and is everything I look for in folk/nature inspired metal.

Yeah this was a bit of a shock but they always felt just slightly under developed. Like they could've just done slightly better off each of their releases. Then, they finally realized that.

better than the pictures of nature that every fucking atmo black metal band uses. a lot of them are really beautiful but its done so much that its gotten old.
